ECO-Buy have developed a program for the Victorian state government to assist departments and agencies to green their purchasing practices by positively influencing procurement processes and providing tools, resources and training to assist in decision making. Please see the brochure below for further program details.
This fee-for-service program builds on the successful ECO-Buy pilot program that ran over 2008/09 with nine Departments and Agencies. Whilst the pilot program ran for just six months - short in organisational terms – agencies implemented some effective green purchasing initiatives and demonstrated progress in embedding green purchasing processes. The pilot was funded by the Department of Sustainability & Environment (DSE) to test existing ECO-Buy services to ensure these met Victorian State Government requirements and then develop an adapted program for roll out in 2009/10.
The Victorian Government spends around $5 billion each year on operating supplies and consumables alone. In driving better value for money the Government has the opportunity to significantly reduce its own environmental ‘footprint’ and that of its suppliers. ECO-Buy works with state government to encourage purchasing of green products and services. Green purchasing is an ideal way for state government to demonstrate to their communities, and suppliers, that they are taking positive steps to create a more sustainable future by choosing to buy products and services that are less damaging to our environment and human health.
