The Victorian Government has a range of commitments to improve the environmental sustainability of its procurement processes, including specific policy commitments, and support for Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability recommendations covering procurement of goods and services, accommodation and motor vehicles.
To help further support sustainable procurement, Our Environment Our Future – Sustainability Action Statement (July 2006) established a $1.5 million ECO-Buy Environmental Purchasing Centre as a centre of excellence in this field. ECO-Buy provide a training and capacity building program to departments and agencies that is complementary to state government sustainable procurement policy and requirements.
