for Excellence in Green Purchasing: People, an award proudly presented by Vertical Talent and Drake International.

Queen Victoria Market is a subsidiary of the Melbourne City Council and has been established for 130 years. It services more than 10 million visitors per year. The market has successfully engaged its staff and traders in green purchasing through a mix of strong communication, consultation and incentives. Market traders are engaged in procurement decisions to ensure buy-in and long-term behaviour change, with such successful initiatives as ‘Bag the Bag’ and switching to biodegradable catering ware. Melbourne Water, for Excellence in Green Purchasing:

Melbourne Water treats and supplies drinking water and looks after Melbourne’s water supply catchments, rivers, creeks and major drainage systems. Since becoming an ECO-Buy member in 2006, Melbourne Water has emerged as a leading green procurement practitioner. They have demonstrated best practice in their robust, externally reviewed Sustainable Procurement Policy and framework and translating these into tangible results through set staff accountability and practical guidelines on the application of sustainable procurement principles. Department for Families and Communities, South Australia
for Excellence in Green Purchasing: Engaging Suppliers, an award proudly presented by Grow Me the Money.

The DFC SA has a broad mandate to work with those who, through circumstance, may be poor, vulnerable, at risk of harm or isolated, and to connect them to choices and opportunities. From the outset DFC SA has been impressive in the way it actively engaged with its suppliers, including a quarterly Procurement and Grants Newsletter which outlines the Department’s sustainability initiatives, regular supplier sustainability questionnaires, sustainability information and criteria in tenders, and discussion of sustainability improvements in contract management meetings. Cardinia Shire Council
for Excellence in Green Purchasing: Measurement and Continuous Improvement, an award proudly presented by the Department of Planning & Community Development.

Cardinia Shire Council is one of the fastest growing regions of metropolitan Melbourne. Located 45 kilometres east of Melbourne CBD, the Shire extends from the Dandenong Ranges in the north to Westernport Bay in the south. The Council has used a mixture of ways to encourage reporting of green purchases from mandating sustainability fields in its finance system to guidance and encouragement from the EcoTeam and Executive. Council’s leadership in this area has also resulted in other neighbouring councils seeking advice from its staff on how they can implement similar approaches. City of Whitehorse
for Excellence in Green Purchasing - Green Products Procurement: Metropolitan Council, an award proudly presented by Maddocks.

The City of Whitehorse is 15 kilometres east of Melbourne and home to over 150,000 residents in an area of 64 square kilometres. The Council has consistently achieved impressive increases in green purchasing expenditure, including a 32% increase in 2009-2010. Sustainable purchasing practices were used by the capital works, finance and contracts teams to drive key green expenditure such as $2.4 million on recycled asphalt, drought tolerant plants and water harvesting and recycling systems. Alpine Shire Council
for Excellence in Green Purchasing - Green Products Procurement: Regional Council, an award proudly presented by Sustainability Victoria.

Alpine Shire Council is a regional community 300 kilometres north east of Melbourne, encompassing the townships of Bright, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford. Alpine Shire Council followed up their 2008-2009 ECO-Buy Excellence in Green Purchasing win with another outstanding result in 2009-2010 with 10.2% of their available expenditure on green products. This has been achieved through the team’s strong alignment to sustainable purchasing goals and investments in parks equipment with green features. Keep Cup
as Green Supplier of the Year, an award proudly presented by Aer Design.

The Keep Cup reusable coffee cup has helped transform the take away coffee experience since its release in 2009. It was the first re-usable cup to address a range of usability considerations lacking in other products. Since then the Keep Cup has become a behaviour change icon, popular with ECO-Buy Members who value its contribution to waste reduction, potential for customisation, quality, and the committed team behind it. Bosch 32C Hot Water System
as Innovative Green Product of the Year, an award proudly presented by AGL.

Hot water is a major energy user in facilities such as schools, aged care facilities and leisure centres. Continuous flow gas systems are ideal for these applications. The new Bosch 32C is the first commercial hot water service to receive a six star energy efficiency rating.
